Internationally acclaimed conductor Dr. Henry Shek has had a long and distinguished international conducting career since the 1970's after he won numerous conducting prizes including the Herbert von Karajan, Besancon and the San Remo(Italy) Opera House. Growing up in Hong Kong, he studied violin and piano at an early age. After high school, he won a scholarship to the San Francisco Conservatory of music. He graduated with distinction in Orchestral Conducting and was immediately engaged as Assistant Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony and the New Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo. From Japan, he went to New York and studied under the great maestro, Carl Bamberger. Under Bamberger's advice, Shek continued his studies in Europe, and subsequently, the award-winning conductor's career has taken him to many music capitals of the world where he conducted many prestigious orchestras, operas and ballets. His recent career highlight was the guest appearances with the Orchestra National de Lille(France) and the Orchestra do Norte(Portugal). Shek is a well sought-after conductor. His recordings of orchestral works and operas are international best-sellers.

Dr. Henry Shek is currently the artistic director-cum-conductor for the Western Instrumental Music Training Programme - Symphony Orchestra, providing the young performing talents with a breadth and diversity of aesthetic experiences.
